Strategic Baseball Simulator
Version 4.9.4 - Dec 2025

>> To run on Windows 11, you MUST install the Windows "LEGACY CONSOLE" add-on!

Instructions for the Legacy Console:
Start (lower-left corner of screen) > Settings > System > Optional Features > Add an optional feature

Then scroll down the list...and add the Legacy Console. Takes a few minutes.

Now right-click the SBS app icon, then click "Properties"
Under the [Options] tab you should now be able to check the box for the Legacy Console.
(This is greyed-out if the Legacy Console is not installed!)

While you're here, you can tweak how much space the SBS console uses on your screen and what font to use.
Click on the [Font] tab. Recommended to choose a True-Type font like "Lucinda Console".
Now select the font size. Recommended about size 18.

>> SCREEN SIZE AND CONFIGURATION

Your mileage may vary, so experiment here with what you like.

>> REGULARLY BACKUP THE STATISTICS FILES YOU CREATE!

Because much of the manipulation of the statistics is done in memory there
is an added risk of data loss due to power failures, accidently turning off
the computer, computer lock-ups or Heaven Forbid, program bugs. To help protect
yourself from such events I strongly recommend that you use the /pw: (path-write) switch
which writes your stat files to a separate directory. Then you should
regularly back-up that directory.

1. For example, create a directory called \STATS:
    >MD \STATS -or- SBS-STATS

2. Then you can edit your BASEBALL.CFG file with a line that
begins WRITE-PATH=.
Example: WRITE-PATH=C:\SBS-STATS -or- C:\SBS\STATS -or- C:\SBS\$Output

WARNING:
Bug: If you specify a special output path in BASEBALL.CFG i.e. WRITE-PATH=C:\SBS\$Output, and the path
or folder does not exist, the program will "hang" when trying to write output.
  STATUS: NOT FIXED!
To force SBS to terminate, right-click on the taskbar and select "Task Manager".
In Task Manager, right-click on the SBS program and select "End Task".
Now edit the BASEBALL.CFG file in your SBS folder and fix the "WRITE-PATH=" and/or create the missing folder.

>> NO STAT FILE COMPATIBILITY WITH VERY OLD VERSIONS

Statistics Files.
The compiled statistics files (.STS, .STB, .STF .STP, etc.) in version 4.9 or later
are NOT COMPATIBLE with the statistics files generated from any previous versions! (4.8.x or earlier)

>> THANK YOU!
Thanks you to all the people who make this program possible
as I do very little coding these days and have other interests these days.

Biggest Thank You to ** PAT SENECHAL ** who has
taken it onto himself to create just about all the seasons and
schedules for many years now.

Many thanks also to Tim Lux and Kristen Lux for providing the
photographs available through www.webshots.com or
www.pbisweb.com/2001journey.

We also thank Richard Barchfield for allowing us to
use his fine photographs. Also, Tom Connors submitted a
couple of nice photos from Jeff Hart and Mark Yow.

You are encouraged to find and download your own
photos or take some yourself. Best results are from
an view behind the plate where the whole field is
visible. You can place your own photographs (.JPG
or .BMP) in the SBS folder, but you must then
update the STADIUM.TXT file and enter the filename.
The players positions are determined by the X,Y,Z
coordinates and tilt angles of the observer which
are also entered in STADIUM.TXT. The trick is to
try to guess the observer's position when the
picture was taken. X is the distance (ft) behind home
plate (a negative number). Y is the distance
right or left of home. Z is the distance above
home plate. TiltZ is the angle adjustment up or
down. TiltY is the tilt angle left or right.

It is very difficult to figure this out by raw
experimentation. There is a crude utility available
on the web site called "vuangle" which may help
a little in determining the proper angles. Although
many times there is no really good solution, since
SBS slightly distorts (stretches) the photos in
order to fit its display window.
